A Girl
by Melissa Snape

As I was walking not along the usual way

From a shop derelict doorway a young girl and her baby lay

for she'd fallen out at home and had nowhere else to stay

As I looked to my left and my right

I thought how lucky I was to be in a nice warm bed at night

The scenes I saw that night I shall never forget
